The National Office of Investigation at the Korean National Police Agency announced that it has launched an investigation into the incident involving the leakage of customer information due to the Lotte Card hacking.
According to the police on September 19, the National Office of Investigation has been aware of the case since the beginning of this month and is currently conducting an investigation. The police plan to determine how much customer information was stolen and through which channels by investigating Lotte Card, and will then track down the hackers.
Lotte Card announced in a briefing the previous day that an external hacking attack resulted in the leakage of information from 2,969,000 customers. It was also found that for 283,000 customers (9.5%), card passwords and CVCs were also compromised.
Lotte Card initially reported the scale of the data breach as 1.7GB, but during the investigation by the Financial Supervisory Service and the Financial Security Institute, this figure was revised upward to 200GB.
