Three residents in Jeju were transported to the hospital after experiencing abdominal pain and other abnormal symptoms following the consumption of wild mushrooms.
According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters on September 19, a report was received at 8:54 p.m. the previous day from a house in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, stating that three men-one in his 70s and two in their 60s-were suffering from abdominal pain and vomiting.
They were taken to the hospital and treated by emergency medical personnel who responded to the scene. It is reported that the symptoms appeared after they ate wild mushrooms collected by an acquaintance.
Experts advise that it is nearly impossible for the general public to perfectly distinguish between poisonous mushrooms and edible ones, and therefore wild mushrooms should be avoided as much as possible.
If symptoms such as nausea, retching, vomiting, diarrhea, or convulsions occur after eating wild mushrooms, it is important to induce vomiting and go to the hospital immediately. Since poisonous mushrooms contain different toxins and require different treatments, it is recommended to bring any remaining mushrooms to the hospital for accurate treatment.
