[Market Focus] HancomWITH Surges as Lotte Card Hacking Follows KT Incident... Government Vows "Fundamental Measures"

HancomWITH shares are showing strong performance. Security solution providers are drawing attention as hacking incidents have occurred at KT and Lotte Card.


As of 11:09 a.m. on September 19, HancomWITH was trading at 4,820 won, up 10.42% from the previous day.


Recently, in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, unauthorized micro-payment fraud targeting KT mobile phone subscribers occurred. According to KT's second briefing held on September 18, there were 362 victims, with total damages amounting to 240 million won. On the same night, at 11:57 p.m., KT also reported four cases of company-wide server breaches and two suspected breach incidents to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).


Lotte Card also experienced a massive customer information leak. The number of affected members is 2.97 million, and for 280,000 of them, card numbers, expiration dates, and CVC numbers were leaked.


In response, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Financial Services Commission held a joint briefing on September 19 regarding cyber breach incidents at telecommunications and financial companies. They stated, "The government, led by the National Security Office and in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Financial Services Commission, and other relevant agencies, is making all-out efforts to minimize hacking damages." They emphasized, "The Ministry of Science and ICT will fundamentally review the current security system from scratch and prepare fundamental measures, rather than relying on temporary responses to incidents."
