Seizure of License Plates from Delinquent Vehicles
and Public Disclosure of Defaulters' Names
Jindo County in South Jeolla Province has launched intensive collection activities in the second half of the year to resolve outstanding non-tax local revenue.
On September 18, the county announced that it has designated the period from September to November as the “2025 Second Half Non-Tax Local Revenue Arrears Cleanup and Intensive Collection Period.”
During this period, the county plans to significantly expand on-site collection activities, including the mass issuance of demand notices and arrears notifications, as well as strengthening enforcement measures against delinquents.
In particular, the county will operate a “Concentrated Crackdown Day on Delinquent Vehicles,” focusing on the seizure of license plates from vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes and vehicle-related fines, especially so-called “ghost vehicles.” Additionally, the county plans to increase collection effectiveness by publicly disclosing the names of individuals with large or habitual arrears of local administrative sanctions and surcharges.
Delinquents can pay their arrears at any financial institution nationwide, and online payment is also available via virtual accounts or the Wetax system.
A county official stated, “Non-tax local revenue is a valuable resource for promoting various welfare policies for our residents,” adding, “We will actively pursue arrears collection activities to expand tax revenue and foster a culture of diligent tax payment.”
