"I Thought Expensive Meant Better"... Surprising Results from Testing 100 Cordless Vacuums

CNET Test Results on Battery Life and Suction Power
$500 Range Models Offer the Best Balance of Performance and Price

There is a common belief that the more expensive an appliance is, the longer it lasts and the better its performance. However, an evaluation of 100 cordless vacuum cleaners, focusing on battery life and suction power, revealed that stick-type vacuum cleaners in the mid-range price of $500 (approximately 690,000 KRW) demonstrated the most stable performance. This indicates that high-end premium products do not necessarily guarantee the best efficiency.

Products Priced Around $500 Offer the Best Value for Money
"I Thought Expensive Meant Better"... Surprising Results from Testing 100 Cordless Vacuums A comparison of 100 cordless vacuum cleaners revealed that stick-type vacuum cleaners priced around $500 (approximately 690,000 KRW) showed the most stable performance and relatively long usage time for their price. On September 15 (local time), the US-based IT media outlet CNET released the results of its test on 100 cordless vacuum cleaners. According to the analysis, there was no clear correlation between price and battery life.

Skyler Breitenstein, an engineer at the CNET Labs, stated, "In this stick vacuum cleaner test, the most consistent values for price and usage time were in the $200-$550 range, with 30-50 minutes of usage time." He added, "While there were products that performed much better or worse, data analysis showed that stick-type vacuum cleaners priced around $500 delivered the best and longest usage times in this test."

The standout product was the Dreame Z30, a vacuum cleaner in the $500 range, which achieved a remarkable usage time of 110 minutes-the longest among all tested models. The Levoit LVAC 300 (about 75 minutes) and Shark Stratos (about 80 minutes) also received high marks.

Stronger Suction Leads to Faster Battery Drain

These products also demonstrated relatively stable performance in suction power tests. In measurements of sand suction, the Dreame Z30 recorded 81.8%. The Shark Stratos and Levoit LVAC-300 reached 95% and 90%, respectively.

However, it was confirmed that stronger suction power tends to result in faster battery consumption. For example, the Eureka React Sense boasted a suction power of 96%, but its usage time was only 33 minutes.LG Electronics' CordZero achieved a high suction power of 89.9%, but its price was around $1,000 and its usage time was just over 10 minutes, which was disappointing.

CNET Labs identified the following cordless vacuum cleaners priced under $500 with high battery life: Dreame Z30, Shark Stratos, Levoit LVAC-300, and Shark Vertex (63.6 minutes). The four models with outstanding suction power in the $500 range were: Eureka React Sense, Shark Stratos, Shark Power Detect Clean & Empty (91%), and Levoit LVAC-300. Taken together, Shark Stratos and Levoit LVAC-300 were mentioned in both categories.

"Maintenance Habits Determine Performance"

Taylor Riley, co-founder of AMR US Commercial Cleaning, said in an interview with CNET, "The performance of a vacuum cleaner depends not only on its price but also on maintenance habits." He advised, "Simply emptying the dustbin frequently and checking the filters can keep the vacuum cleaner performing almost like new."

The results of this study show that high-end premium products do not necessarily guarantee the best efficiency. CNET concluded, "You can definitely find cordless vacuum cleaners in the mid-price range that offer sufficiently long battery life and stable suction power."
