Choi, who serves as the chairperson of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, wrote on her Facebook page on September 17, "Park Geunhye was sitting to my front right, smiling brightly the entire time, and Cho Heedai was seated to my left." On this day, former President Park and Chief Justice Cho attended the 60th anniversary ceremony of JoongAng Ilbo, held at the Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Choi criticized former President Park, saying, "She kept sitting there, smiling so brightly," and added, "After shaking the nation with Choi Soon-sil (now known as Choi Seo-won) and the state affairs scandal, shouldn't she be reflecting on her actions?"
She continued, "After I exposed the expensive foreign-made Pilates equipment in the Blue House in 2015, the hidden camera incident involving Yoon Jeonchoo of the Second Secretariat, three mysterious beds, and luxury trash cans, I was told by the so-called 'three key aides' to stop my revelations because I had become their target," adding, "I couldn't stop exposing the truth, and my revelations played a crucial role in uncovering Choi Soon-sil's existence."
Choi stated, "Afterwards, I was subjected to what I believe was an unfair political trial, and after losing my right to run for office, I endured eight difficult years in the political wilderness," adding, "At the time, Cho Heedai was the presiding justice at the Supreme Court in charge of my case. In a very unusual move, he delivered the Supreme Court's verdict in just over two months, stripping me of my right to run for office."
Choi was indicted ahead of the 20th general election on charges of campaigning at the Namyangju City Hall office in Gyeonggi Province, and in July 2018, the Supreme Court finalized a fine of 1.5 million won, resulting in the loss of her eligibility to run for office.
Former President Lee Myungbak also attended the event. Choi remarked, "Even economic criminal Lee Myungbak was there, and he shook hands with Cho Heedai, wishing him 'good luck.' These people are truly shameless," she said pointedly.
