Three Additional Evacuation Sites Designated
Based on Accessibility and Capacity, Expanding Beyond the Original Location
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 18th that it has increased the number of designated evacuation sites for chemical accidents from one to four by adding three new locations, in order to ensure the rapid evacuation and safety of residents in the event of a chemical incident.
This measure was taken to alleviate public anxiety and establish an effective response system in the event of an accident, amid growing nationwide awareness of chemical safety.
The newly designated evacuation sites are Cheongpyeong Lakeside Culture and Sports Center, Seorak Bandabi Culture and Sports Center, and Jojong Bandabi Culture and Sports Center. These will operate alongside the existing Gapyeong Gymnasium evacuation facility, further strengthening the safety network for residents.
In the process of selecting additional sites, the county comprehensively reviewed factors such as distance from chemical-handling businesses, transportation accessibility, and facility capacity. In addition, by utilizing gyms and culture and sports centers that residents can easily access in their daily lives, the county established a highly practical evacuation system.
An official from Gapyeong County emphasized, "Since chemical accidents can occur without warning, it is important for residents to familiarize themselves with the nearest evacuation sites in advance." The official added, "We will establish an effective response system by maintaining clear signage and conducting regular safety drills."
