Lawyer Lee Bokhyun (32nd class of Judicial Research and Training Institute), who served as the 15th Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, will officially begin his legal practice next month. For the time being, he plans to focus on advisory work, mainly handling corporate and financial cases.

According to industry sources on September 18, Lee has set up a law office in the Sinha Building in Jeong-dong, Seoul, and will officially commence work starting October 1. It is reported that several key figures in the financial industry, including Bank of Korea Governor Rhee Changyong, have personally sent their congratulations on the opening of his office.

After holding a retirement ceremony as Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service on June 5, Lee registered his law practice with the Seoul Bar Association in July. Following a period of rest, he opened his law office earlier this month and signed a business agreement with Changcheon Law Firm. Lee Bokhyun Law Office is located in the Sinha Building in Jeong-dong.

Lee plans to focus primarily on advisory work at first. He is expected to be active mainly in corporate and financial sectors. During his tenure as Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, he drew attention by raising key issues on topics that financial companies and corporations are highly sensitive to, such as amendments to the Commercial Act and breach of trust.

While serving as Governor, he emphasized to employees the importance of considering legal aspects when supervising and inspecting financial companies. As a result, the staff at the Financial Supervisory Service became more thorough in reviewing relevant legal principles when dealing with important matters.

Meanwhile, Lee graduated from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University and first passed the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) examination in 1998. Two years later, he passed the 42nd National Bar Examination, completed the 32nd class at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, and was appointed as a prosecutor.

He was appointed as a new prosecutor at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office in 2003, and later served as a prosecutor at the Gunsan Branch of the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office in 2005, a prosecutor in the Legal Affairs Division at the Ministry of Justice, a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, Deputy Chief of the Special Investigation Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and Chief of the Special Investigation Division 4, Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 4, and Economic Crime Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.

He became well known for his strong background in the Securities and Exchange Act and the Capital Markets Act, having led investigations into securities and financial cases. In 2006, just four years after his appointment, he was seconded to the Central Investigation Department of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, where he participated in major economic crime investigations involving companies such as Hyundai Motor Company and Lone Star, earning a reputation within the prosecution as an expert in economic affairs.
