A Unique Trekking Program Featuring the History and Culture of Dogye
Experience the Journey Aboard the Switchback Train
The Gangwon Tourism Organization (CEO Choi Sunghyun, hereafter referred to as the Organization) announced on September 18 that it will host the 'Untan Altitude 1330 Theme Trail Festival' Samcheok Edition on September 27 to celebrate the autumn season.
This event offers a variety of programs designed to allow participants to ride the switchback train, experience the history and culture of Dogye along the former coal transport route, and enjoy the excitement of local festivals.
The festival will be held on September 27, starting with a gathering at the public parking lot of Dogye Station and lasting for one day. Participants will take a shuttle bus to High1 Choo Choo Park, board the switchback train, and then walk a course that follows the historical and cultural heritage sites of Dogye.
In particular, the event will be linked with the 'Challenge Continues: Begin Again' festival, providing a variety of performances and hands-on activities for an even richer experience. The participation fee is 20,000 KRW, and registration is available through Naver Reservation.
'Untan Altitude 1330' is a unique travel destination that has brought new value to former mining areas, adding culture, history, and inspiration to walking and evolving each year. Spanning across abandoned mining regions, Untan Altitude 1330 showcases the area's history and transformed landscapes, offering visitors new experiences.
Following this Samcheok event, the Organization plans to provide even deeper experiences by connecting with major cultural events in each region during the 2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years.
On October 18, the Kimsatgat Cultural Festival will be held in Yeongwol, and on November 1, a themed event in collaboration with Kangwon Land will welcome visitors in Jeongseon.
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Organization, stated, "I hope you will feel the deepening autumn at Untan Altitude 1330, where the unique nature, history, and culture of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province come alive," adding, "We will continue to offer visitors new experiences with a variety of themes that highlight the unique characteristics of each region."
