Discussing the Future of K-Bio... 'Pohang Future Development Forum in Biohealth' to Be Held

Held in Seoul on the 22nd, Discussions on Nurturing Bioindustry Talent and Strengthening Research Capabilities
Unveiling Strategies to Establish Pohang as an Advanced Bio Hub City through Development of Specialized Bio Clusters

Pohang City, in collaboration with North Gyeongsang Province, will host the '2025 Biohealth Pohang Future Development Forum' at 1:30 p.m. on September 22 at the Banyan Tree Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Seoul.

This large-scale forum will bring together more than 200 participants from the bioindustry sector, including representatives from academia, research institutes, industry, and government. It is a region-led K-Bio strategy forum that will address three major national agendas in one place: reducing regional healthcare disparities, advancing bio research and development and industrialization, and promoting balanced national development.

Pohang boasts world-class research infrastructure, including third- and fourth-generation synchrotron radiation accelerators, the Membrane Protein Research Institute, and the Green Vaccine Demonstration Support Center. It is the only city in Korea equipped with a full cycle encompassing research, clinical trials, production, and commercialization.

The city plans to use this forum to widely promote Pohang's research capabilities and to ensure that these efforts will lead to the inclusion of related national projects and policies in the future.

The forum will begin with an opening ceremony and keynote speech, followed by two sessions and a comprehensive discussion. In the keynote address, Park Kuseon, Chairman of the Daegu Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation, will discuss the topic, "K-Bio Hub City: Why Pohang, and Why Now?" highlighting Pohang's research infrastructure and the need for balanced national development.

The subsequent sessions will focus on "Bio Venture Cluster and Infrastructure Strategies" and "Pohang's Bio Future Strategy and Talent Development," presenting visions and challenges for Pohang to evolve as a specialized bio cluster. The comprehensive discussion will bring together academic and media experts to share their perspectives on "Success Factors for Bio Specialized Clusters and the Path to Balanced Regional Development."

The city expects the forum to yield multiple outcomes, including establishing a practical foundation for linking with government policies, strengthening the base for attracting and investing in bio ventures, developing strategies for nurturing future-oriented bioindustry talent such as through the establishment of a medical school, and sharing strategies to address regional healthcare disparities.

In particular, by presenting concrete models for talent development in advanced bio fields and strategies for bio-specialized clusters, the forum is expected to serve as a platform for proposing a new regional balanced development model for K-Bio policies, which have traditionally centered on the Seoul metropolitan area.

A Pohang City official stated, "Through this forum, we aim to explore directions for fostering the biohealth industry as a future growth engine for Pohang," adding, "We will do our utmost to establish this as an action-oriented platform that leads to national policies and industrial achievements."
