Gwangsan District in Gwangju to Provide Disaster Relief Funds to Residents Affected by Heavy Rainfall

Gwangsan District in Gwangju announced on September 17 that it will provide disaster relief funds to residents who suffered flood damage due to heavy rainfall at the end of July.

Households whose homes were flooded will receive up to 9 million won per household (7 million won in disaster relief funds plus 2 million won in donations), and small business owners will receive up to 10 million won before Chuseok (8 million won in disaster relief funds plus 2 million won from the relief fund). Farmers whose farmland was damaged will also receive support, with the amount varying according to the extent of individual losses.

This round of disaster relief funds targets the first wave of damage that occurred at the end of July. For the second wave of damage that occurred in early August, Gwangsan District plans to provide separate payments after securing national funds in consultation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Previously, Gwangsan District suffered 15.7 billion won in damages due to extreme rainfall in July and August, resulting in Oryong-dong and Samdo-dong being designated as special disaster zones. The district will also use national and local funds to implement measures to prevent recurrence, such as installing flood barriers and creating flood trace maps.
