This award recognizes Hanam City for its outstanding achievements in establishing policy foundations that allow young people to stay and grow, as well as for its remarkable expansion of cultural and welfare infrastructure.
The "National Sympathy Campaign" is an awards ceremony hosted by The Dong-A Ilbo and supported by government agencies such as the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It was established to promote organizations and groups that strive to enhance the values of Korea through empathy and communication.
Since the beginning of the eighth popularly elected administration, Hanam City has established the Youth Employment Division, a dedicated organization for youth policies, and has operated the Youth Honorary Mayor System and the Youth Policy Advisory Group, creating a structure that directly reflects the needs of young people in its policies.
Initiatives such as youth discovery workshops and the integration with the participatory budgeting system have been highly praised for positioning young people not just as beneficiaries of policies, but as active designers of those policies.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "We will continue to pursue more practical and compassionate policies so that young people can nurture their dreams, grow, and increase their satisfaction with life in Hanam."
