Gangjin County in South Jeolla Province has created an experimental stage for young entrepreneurs in its traditional market. On September 16, the county announced that it will operate the 'Byeongyeong Oil, New Market: Chapter' pop-up store at Byeongyeong Market. The event will be held every Friday and Saturday until October, in conjunction with the 'Bulgeumbulpa' festival.
Eighteen youth startup teams will participate in the pop-up store. They will showcase processed rice and oat foods, cosmetic ingredient products, board games, and craft and lifestyle items, all utilizing local resources such as Gangjin's grains, plants, flavors, and stories.
The event name carries a dual meaning, combining the concepts of 'market' and 'chapter.' It signifies the intention to expand Byeongyeong Market, once a vibrant space on market days, into a platform for young entrepreneurs to experiment and innovate.
The participating companies are alumni of the 'Next Local' youth entrepreneurship support program, which has been promoted by Gangjin County and the Seoul Metropolitan Government since 2020. Notable examples include New Trap (rice and oat snacks for infants), Hype Room (Gangjin rice cleanser), Parikit (rice and oat spread), and Woori Art (Gangjin rice traditional liquor). In addition, products based on the ideas of 15 young creators, who are involved in the Byeongyeong-myeon Youth Village Project, will also be introduced.
