So far, a total of 155 personnel and 41 pieces of equipment from Gwangyang City Hall, the fire department, and other related agencies have been mobilized. While the main flames have been brought under control, sparks and smoke continue to emerge from inside the warehouse.
An official from the fire authorities stated, "In this case, the fire reacts with water to generate heat, so it is expected to take some time for full extinguishment." The official added, "Considering the fire at the aluminum powder factory in Hampyeong County in 2023, it could take more than 30 days to fully put out the fire."
Mayor Jung Inhwa, who visited the site, encouraged the firefighters for their hard work and said, "Fortunately, there have been no casualties, but please do your utmost to prevent any secondary damage until the fire is completely extinguished."
Gwangyang City, preparing for the possibility of long-term spread of smoke, dust, and fine pollutants, advised citizens to take detours when driving, keep windows closed at home, refrain from unnecessary outings, and wear masks when going outside.
