Odongdong Immersed in Beer and Music
Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province successfully held the 5th Odongdong Agupo + Beer Festival at the Odongdong Culture Square in Masanhappo-gu.
The festival, held on September 12, drew over 800 participants, including Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, local members of the National Assembly, city and provincial council members, as well as citizens and tourists, filling the Odongdong area with festive energy.
This year’s festival attracted attention with its unique concept of “Agumaek,” a combination of Agupo (monkfish jerky) and beer. Various snack booths and food trucks sold a glass of beer for 2,000 won, proving highly popular among tourists.
Kim Sangsoo, President of the Odongdong Merchants Association, remarked, “Odongdong has always been a street of youth and art. During this year’s festival, about 8,000 citizens and tourists visited the venue, and it felt as if Odongdong’s former glory had returned.”
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “With Odongdong’s specialty Agupo, beer, and music, you can feel the vibrancy of Odongdong. I hope this event provides citizens with fond memories and nostalgia, while also revitalizing the local economy.”
Meanwhile, the Agumaek Festival, hosted and organized by the Odongdong Merchants Association, was held over two days from September 12 to 13. The event featured an opening ceremony, a beer-drinking contest, a disco competition, and various celebratory performances. It is regarded as a representative urban night festival in the summer, known for its distinctive “Agumaek” concept.
