Gimcheon Launches Citywide Cleanup with Citizens Ahead of Chuseok and Provincial Life Sports Festival Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk Province has launched a comprehensive cleanup campaign in preparation for Chuseok.

This cleanup effort took place simultaneously at key tourist destinations and eight major local hubs, including Yeonhwaji, Hwangsan Waterfall, the agricultural wholesale market, and Yanggeum Waterfall. The city designated the period from September 1 to September 19 as the official environmental maintenance period, focusing intensive cleaning on roads, rivers, and vulnerable areas throughout Gimcheon.

At the township and neighborhood level, local organizations such as the Village Head Council, the Nature Conservation Council, the Saemaeul Movement, and the Living Right Movement Headquarters are also leading their own cleanup initiatives.

In particular, the city is prioritizing major access roads connecting neighboring cities and counties, as well as river areas like Gamcheon and Jikjisa Stream, as key management zones. This is part of an effort to present Gimcheon as a "clean city" to outside visitors.

Baek Nakho, Mayor of Gimcheon, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that returning residents and participants in the Provincial Residents' Life Sports Festival can enjoy a pleasant stay during Chuseok," adding, "We will work together with citizens to spread a culture of urban cleanliness."

Meanwhile, the city's Resource Circulation Division is intensifying daily cleanliness measures, including the management of household waste, bulky waste, food waste disposal, road cleaning, and crackdowns on illegal dumping, in a push to create "Clean Villages" throughout Gimcheon.

Through this environmental cleanup, Gimcheon City is taking a strategic step beyond simple holiday cleaning, aiming to enhance its urban brand value. The "Clean Gimcheon" initiative is expected to become a symbol that strengthens both local pride and the impression left on visitors.
