Second Session of Political Academy 'Democratic Leadership IN Sejong' Launched Ahead of Local Elections

The Sejong City branch of the Democratic Party of Korea launched the second session of its 2025 Political Academy, "Democratic Leadership IN Sejong," on September 12. According to party officials, the first session of the Political Academy, held on August 19, concluded successfully thanks to high interest and active participation from citizens. Attention is now focused on whether this enthusiasm will continue for the second session.

In a press release issued on September 13, the branch explained that the Political Academy was established to discover political talent in the region and strengthen democratic leadership ahead of next year's local elections. The program features in-depth lectures that examine the values of democracy, gender equality, and the future of the Korean economy from multiple perspectives.

Professor Kim Yooni will deliver a lecture on "Gender-Equal Governance," discussing the need for a gender-equality perspective in local politics, the institutional feasibility of gender equality in Korean society, and cases where gender-equal governance has contributed to the development of regional politics and democracy. Lim Kyubin, a lecturer from the Democratic Research Institute, will speak on "The Lee Jaemyung Administration and the Korean Economy: Prospects and Tasks," analyzing the current state and structural challenges of the Korean economy, examining the economic vision and policy direction of the Lee Jaemyung administration in depth, and seeking practical policy alternatives for pressing issues. National Assembly member Kim Sangwook will address "Restoration and Growth of Democracy," diagnosing the crises and challenges faced by Korean democracy after the declaration of martial law, and presenting institutional and political solutions to overcome them.

Kang Junhyun, head of the Sejong City branch, emphasized, "The Political Academy is a forum for broad discussions on the values of democracy, gender equality, and the future of the Korean economy. To secure victory in next year's local elections, we will actively discover fresh candidates and nurture democratic leaders who can lead the local community."

Park Byungnam, chairman of the Education and Training Committee, stated, "The Political Academy goes beyond a simple educational program; it is a venue for identifying regional agendas and fostering the political imagination and execution skills needed to address issues closely related to the lives of Sejong citizens. The branch will continue to cultivate talented individuals prepared to tackle regional issues by strengthening political capabilities."
