Kim Sunghee, Chief of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, has been nominated for promotion to the rank of Senior Deputy Commissioner General, the second-highest rank in the police hierarchy.
On September 12, Kim was listed among those promoted to Senior Deputy Commissioner General in the National Police Agency's senior personnel appointments.
On this day, the National Police Agency announced nominations for the promotion of five Senior Deputy Commissioner Generals and nine Deputy Commissioner Generals.
Alongside Chief Kim Sunghee, Han Changhoon, Director of the Public Safety and Traffic Bureau at the National Police Agency; Park Jeongbo, President of the Korea National Police Human Resources Development Institute; Hwang Changsun, Chief of the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency; and Eom Seonggyu, Chief of the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, were each nominated for the Senior Deputy Commissioner General position.
The nine nominees for Deputy Commissioner General are Kwak Byungwoo, Hong Seokgi, Yoo Yoonjong, Ko Beomseok, Kim Wontae, Kim Younggeun, Lee Jongwon, Choi Bohyun, and Kim Jongcheol, all currently serving as police superintendents.
Chief Kim, a native of Cheongdo in North Gyeongsang Province, graduated from Mogae High School in Cheongdo, earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University, and a doctorate in Security Studies from Kyonggi University. He entered the police force as part of the ninth class of the Korean National Police University.
He has served as Chief of the Mungyeong Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province, Chief of the Ilsan Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, and has held various positions at the National Police Agency, including Director of Innovation Planning and Coordination, Director of Autonomous Police Cooperation Policy, Head of the Talent Policy Task Force, Director of Police Situation Management, and Spokesperson. He was promoted to Deputy Commissioner General last year.
The personnel appointments take effect as of today, and the assignment of positions for those newly promoted is expected to take place as early as next week.
