Chuncheon City, led by Mayor Yook Donghan, successfully concluded the 'Hosujibang Garden Development Project' vision declaration ceremony and final service report meeting held in the city hall's main conference room on this day.

The event began with a symbolic ceremony in which citizens planted seed objects. The hopeful messages contained in these small seeds signify that they will grow into gardens and spread throughout the entire city.

During the subsequent final service report meeting, the overall concept for the local garden space was presented. Chuncheon Hosujibang Garden will be divided into Route A and Route B for visitors to enjoy. Route A is themed around "the essence of Chuncheon," with the initial entry area consisting of a Welcome Garden and Garden Village, designed as spaces where citizens can enjoy festivals and relaxation.

The core feature is the "Floating Island," which represents three islands on the lake. The first island, "Forest Garden," evokes the forests and rime of Chuncheon. The second island, "Water Garden," features aquatic facilities and a misty water landscape. The final island, "Mountain Garden," will be designed with ridge-shaped mounds and curved pathways.

Route B is the "Yunseul Art Garden" area, which utilizes the wetland and waterfront environment. The main features include rest areas with views of ever-changing scenery and a lakeside promenade along the tranquil lake. In particular, a kayak dock and "Kayaking Island" will be established, allowing visitors to experience the garden from a new perspective on the water. Visitors can also enjoy artistic landscapes that change with the seasons, set against a natural backdrop of willows and reeds.

The city explained that this plan focuses on creating a sustainable garden city model that preserves the water resources of Uiam Lake and the ecological environment of Sangjungdo, while also providing spaces for both citizens and tourists to enjoy. Citizens were able to explore the design plan through a 3D video experience. One citizen commented, "Just seeing the space in 3D has raised my expectations. I feel proud to be able to participate directly."

The hands-on activities held alongside the vision declaration ceremony included family programs such as creating flower gardens and making terrariums, attracting many citizens. A "Companion Plant Clinic" was also available, where participants could learn about plant health diagnostics and care methods. The hands-on activities will continue until the 13th, and the Fairy Garden exhibition will be held in the city hall lobby until the end of September.

With this event as a starting point, the city will actively promote a citizen-participatory garden city model and will officially launch the project with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Sangjungdo site on October 1.

The Hosujibang Garden, which will be built on an 180,000-square-meter site with a total investment of 15.4 billion won, is scheduled for completion in 2027. In the future, the city plans to expand the foundation of the garden industry by establishing hubs such as the National Garden Resource Center.

Mayor Yook Donghan stated, "The small seed we planted today will grow into the dreams of all citizens and spread throughout the city. As gardens provide citizens with spaces for healing, reflection, and celebration, I believe today's vision declaration ceremony marks the first step for Chuncheon as a garden city."
