Woori Financial Group's Woori Financial Future Foundation has opened a door of hope for people with developmental disabilities in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. On September 11, the foundation announced that it had opened the "Goodwill Store Milal Cheongju Sangdang Branch" together with the Milal Welfare Foundation to support the independence of people with developmental disabilities.
The "Goodwill Store" is a workplace for people with disabilities and a donation-based retail store, where donated goods from companies and individuals are sold to generate revenue used to employ people with developmental disabilities. Woori Financial Group plans to provide 30 billion won over the next 10 years to establish 100 Goodwill Store locations, creating stable jobs for 1,500 people with disabilities.
The newly opened "Goodwill Store Milal Cheongju Sangdang Branch" is the twelfth store established through the collaboration between Woori Financial Group and the Milal Welfare Foundation. To expand employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities living in regional areas, Woori Financial Group opened stores in Gwangju last year, followed by Daejeon and Busan, and this year has launched new stores in key cities including Ulsan, Daegu, Ansan, and Cheongju, steadily expanding the Goodwill Store network nationwide.
A Woori Financial Group representative stated, "We are very pleased to be able to provide stable jobs for people with developmental disabilities in the Cheongju area. The opportunity to work is a fundamental right and the starting point for social participation, so Woori Financial Group will continue to expand Goodwill Stores across the country, serving as a strong support so that people with developmental disabilities can become independent and healthy members of their local communities."
Meanwhile, the Woori Financial Future Foundation is currently installing and operating "Goodwill Donation Boxes"-containers for donated goods to promote a culture of giving-at Woori Bank ATM locations. Donations can also be conveniently made through the "Goodwill Store Goods Donation" service on the Woori WON Banking App. Donated items are sold at the Goodwill Store, and donors are eligible for tax deductions at year-end tax settlement.
