The head of the Gimpo Airport Police Unit, which operates directly under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, has been removed from duty and is under inspection over allegations of power abuse against subordinates.
On September 12, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it had placed Superintendent A, the head of the Gimpo Airport Police Unit, on standby the previous day and is currently investigating allegations of power abuse.
The police received a complaint that Superintendent A, who took office in July, had given excessive workloads and issued unfair orders to subordinates. In response, an inspection was launched at the end of last month.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to refer Superintendent A to a disciplinary committee as soon as the investigation is complete.
The Gimpo Airport Police Unit is responsible for safety activities such as preventing various terrorist threats within Gimpo Airport.
