Culture Ministry to Hold Extended Traditional Arts Performances in Gyeongju to Celebrate APEC Summit

"Seorabeol Pungnyu" at Gyochon Village, Yukbuchon, and Cheomseongdae
Thirty-one Groups to Present 37 Traditional Music Performances Until October 29

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Traditional Performing Arts Foundation, announced that in celebration of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, a total of 37 performances of the traditional arts show "Seorabeol Pungnyu" will be held from September 12 to October 29 at Gyochon Village, Yukbuchon, and Cheomseongdae in Gyeongju.

"Seorabeol Pungnyu" aims to create a stage where the ancient and the modern, tradition and creativity, are harmoniously blended, inheriting the spirit of "Eumseongseo," the first royal music institution in Korea. Thirty-one groups and over 700 Korean traditional musicians will infuse the spirit of Silla Hwarang and the historical traces of the Buddhist land into music, song, and dance.

At the Gyochon Village Plaza stage, performances will be held every Friday and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. from September 12 to 27, and every day at 5:00 p.m. during the Chuseok holiday period from October 7 to 12. For these performances, a nationwide audition was held from June to July, selecting 23 groups and a total of 249 local artists and young traditional musicians. They will present traditional arts that combine Korean instrumental music, vocal music, dance, and performance, as well as modern creative traditional music centered on chamber music.

At Yukbuchon, performances will take place every day at 7:00 p.m. from October 20 to 29. Additionally, on October 21 and from October 24 to 29, there will also be performances every day at 4:30 p.m. The National Youth Traditional Performing Arts Troupe, the National Youth Dance Troupe, and local performing arts groups will showcase spectacular skills and passionate movements in front of Yukbuchon. In the main conference hall, audiences can experience the essence of traditional arts with explanations in foreign languages.

At Cheomseongdae, a special stage will be set up every day at 7:00 p.m. from October 22 to 29. The National Gugak Center, Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra, Gugak Broadcasting, and Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Provincial Gugak Center will present large-scale traditional music performances to share the beauty and excitement of Korean music.

The National Jeongdong Theater Company will stage "Dansim" at Munmu Hall in the Gyeongju Expo Grand Park Culture Center from October 31 to November 4. "Dansim" is a reinterpretation of the classic folktale "Simcheong," expressing Simcheong’s inner world through LED visuals with a modern sensibility.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized its plan to make Seorabeol Pungnyu a festival of traditional Korean music that all citizens can enjoy and connect with together.
