A new hub for rural life and culture has opened in Tancheon-myeon, Gongju, South Chungcheong Province. On September 10, the city held a completion ceremony for the 'Tancheon-myeon Basic Living Base Development Project' and announced the official launch of the multi-purpose space 'Geumbit Tancheon Happiness Power Plant,' which will encompass resident education, welfare, and cultural activities.
The city announced on September 11 that it had constructed the 'Geumbit Tancheon Happiness Power Plant' in Tancheon-myeon as part of the basic living base development project, which aims to strengthen the functions of rural centers and improve residents' quality of life.
A total project cost of 4.94 billion won was invested in the project, and the facility was built with a total floor area of 647.8 square meters and two stories above ground. In addition, 36 signboard improvement projects and an access road expansion were carried out to enhance accessibility and the surrounding environment.
The facility is equipped with a multipurpose auditorium, a resident education room, a fitness center, a multipurpose room with a billiard hall, and a cafe. It will serve as a multi-functional space supporting learning, cultural activities, resident interaction, and community engagement.
In particular, a variety of programs will be offered, including resident capacity-building programs, start-up and management consulting, lifestyle and cultural education, and promotional and marketing support. These initiatives are expected to lay the foundation for revitalizing the local community and fostering sustainable development.
Approximately 200 people attended the completion ceremony, including Mayor Choi Woncheol, city and provincial council members, Park Jaekeun, head of the Gongju branch of Korea Rural Community Corporation, Kim Ilbae, chairman of the operations committee, and local residents, to celebrate the opening.
Mayor Choi stated, "Geumbit Tancheon Happiness Power Plant will be a space for happiness, encompassing residents' daily lives, culture, and communication. If everyone in the community takes ownership and works to develop it, Tancheon-myeon will be able to achieve a new leap forward."
