Gapyeong County Expresses Gratitude and Hope Through Flowers After Heavy Rains
One-Month Festival at Southern Jaraseom Island Starting September 13
A Floral Feast of Appreciation and Hope
Thanking Supporters and Revitalizing the Community A
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province will hold the "Jaraseom Flower Festa" for one month from September 13 to October 12 at the southern part of Jaraseom Island. This festival has been organized to express gratitude for the warm support sent from all over the country during the recovery from the heavy rains in July, and to offer comfort and hope to affected residents.
This year's Flower Festa is themed "Flowers That Bloomed Through Pain, Thank You for Your Warm Support." The 80,710-square-meter (approximately 24,000 pyeong) festival site will feature a moving garden with zinnias symbolizing connection, penstemon representing grace, sunflowers embodying hope, as well as pink muhly grass, gujeolcho, pampas grass, and cockscomb-showcasing a beautiful array of autumn flowers. Through this, the county aims to express gratitude for the nationwide support with flowers and to deliver a message of healing and comfort to local residents.
The festival is open for viewing from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last exit at 7:00 p.m. Gapyeong residents and children aged five or younger can enter for free. Visitors from outside the county can purchase an admission ticket for 7,000 won and receive a 5,000-won Gapyeong Love Gift Certificate as a refund, providing tangible benefits within the region. The gift certificates can be used at agricultural product booths inside the festival grounds and at local businesses throughout the county.
For the convenience of visitors, electric vehicles will operate between Gapyeong Rail Bike, the entrance to Jaraseom Island, and the entrance to the southern area. The Bukhangang River Millennium Boat will also run, connecting Jaraseom Island, Nami Island, and Gapyeong Marina by water, allowing visitors to enjoy major tourist attractions at once.
By presenting a Flower Festa admission ticket, visitors can receive discounts or services at 11 major tourist attractions in Gapyeong, as well as at 34 restaurants and cafes. Detailed information is available in brochures at the site and on the Gapyeong County Culture & Tourism website. The county expects these benefits will encourage visitors to stay longer and invigorate the local economy.
At the festival site, a Rainbow Garden inspired by Gapyeong mascots "Gapyeongi" and "Songsongi," as well as a Friendship Garden featuring symbols of countries that participated in the Battle of Gapyeong, will be set up as photo zones. On weekends and public holidays, performances by local artists and busking events will add to the lively atmosphere. Experience programs include renting vintage school uniforms and hanbok, making flower crowns, balloon art, and multicultural food workshops. In particular, as a token of gratitude for the support in overcoming flood damage, costume rental, flower crown making, and balloon art will be offered free of charge.
Seo Taewon, Governor of Gapyeong County, stated, "This year's Jaraseom Flower Festa is an occasion to commemorate how, thanks to the warm support from across the country, we were able to rise again despite tremendous flood damage. I hope this beautiful flower festival will become a symbol of solidarity, sharing pain and planting hope together."
