The story of police officers rescuing citizens in danger in Sinan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, which suffered severe flooding due to record-breaking heavy rain, has come to light belatedly. At the time, traffic police officers on duty for road control discovered elderly residents trapped inside a building. Despite the situation, where muddy water and debris were mixed together, they quietly carried out the rescue and evacuated the citizens using their own vehicles.
On September 9, a heartfelt tip-off video from a citizen was posted on the National Police Agency’s YouTube channel. In the video, the informant explained that they wanted to highlight the efforts of police officers who make sacrifices out of the public eye.
The informant had been worried about the home of an elderly woman who had also suffered damage from the heavy rain two weeks earlier. As the rain continued and the water kept rising, the informant eventually went to the scene to help with the rescue.

However, there were already two traffic police officers at the scene. They waded through the muddy water to check on the elderly residents near the window, and after rescuing them, they held the elderly woman's hand and evacuated her in a black SUV that appeared to be a personal vehicle belonging to one of the officers.

The informant said, "I wanted people to know that there are police officers working hard in places where they can't be seen," and added, "They are truly admirable police officers. Please tell the chief to buy them a meal."
