Hampyeong County in South Jeolla Province announced on September 9 that it has officially launched the Hampyeong County Disabled Sports Association, marking a new milestone for the advancement of sports for people with disabilities and the integration of the local community.
The "Hampyeong County Disabled Sports Association Founding General Meeting and Board Meeting" was held on September 8 at the county office's small conference room. The meeting was attended by Lee Sangik, the ex officio president and governor of Hampyeong County, along with 16 board members, Lee Namoh, chairman of the Hampyeong County Council, representatives from the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Association, and officials from South Jeolla Province. This general meeting officially announced the establishment of the association and laid the foundation for its future operations.
The meeting began with a progress report on the establishment, followed by the presentation of appointment letters to executives, and then the review and approval of agenda items. The main agenda items reviewed included the appointment of the executive vice president and secretary general, the enactment of bylaws, the establishment of regulations for the secretariat's operation, and the 2026 budget plan. All items were approved by the board of directors.
The Hampyeong County Disabled Sports Association aims to promote the development of sports for people with disabilities and to foster a healthy leisure culture. By organizing recreational sports programs and regular competitions where people with and without disabilities can participate together, the association is expected to play a central role in leading community integration.
Governor Lee Sangik stated, "This will provide a foundation for local residents with disabilities to comfortably enjoy recreational sports and regain their health," adding, "The county will also provide full support to promote sports for people with disabilities."
