"The Army Investigation Division Will Continue to Investigate How the Firearm and Ammunition Were Leaked"
The Army has transferred the case of a captain's fatal shooting incident, which occurred at a unit in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, to the police.
Through an official notice, the Army announced on September 9, "Considering the deceased's memo in the form of a will and the complaint filed by the bereaved family, we have determined that there is suspicion of a crime related to the cause of death. Accordingly, we have reported the case to the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency."
Previously, on September 2, a captain from the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon was found dead from a gunshot wound at Suseong Lake in Daegu. At the scene, a K2 rifle and a will were found. It was reported that the rifle did not belong to the captain, but to a cadet from the academy.
Regarding this matter, the Army explained, "The Army Investigation Division will actively cooperate with the investigation by civilian law enforcement agencies," and added, "The Army Investigation Division will continue to investigate how the firearm and ammunition were leaked."
