Demand for Severe Disciplinary Action Against Power-Abusing Senior Official ... Sancheong Branch of Government Employees' Union Holds Solo Protest

The head of the Sancheong branch of the National Government Employees' Union Gyeongnam Headquarters has launched a solo protest, calling for severe disciplinary action against a senior official of Sancheong County over a case of power abuse.

On the morning of September 9, Lee Gyupil, head of the Sancheong branch, stood in front of the entrance to the Gyeongnam Provincial Government building holding a placard, demanding, "Gyeongnam Province must thoroughly reinvestigate the power abuse case involving a senior official of Sancheong County and impose severe disciplinary action."

Previously, on August 7, the Gyeongnam Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union held a press conference at the Provincial Government Press Center, exposing the power abuse case involving a senior official of Sancheong County.

According to the union, the head of Sancheong-eup, referred to as "A," insulted staff in front of all employees by saying, "You are really incompetent at your job," repeatedly made derogatory remarks toward county staff in front of civil petitioners, threatened, "I will destroy you when you come to work," made disparaging comments about employees' families, and pressured employees to resign or transfer.

After receiving the union's report, Sancheong County removed the head of Sancheong-eup from their position and placed them on standby within one day. The county also requested the Gyeongsangnam-do Personnel Committee to impose minor disciplinary actions such as a warning or a pay cut.

In response, the union criticized these measures as "slap-on-the-wrist punishment" and called on Gyeongnam Province to conduct a reinvestigation through the Audit Committee and impose severe disciplinary action.
