This event has been organized to respond to the recent surge in interest in traditional culture among young people and to contribute to the spread of K-culture by connecting the museum’s cultural heritage with themes that resonate globally.

During the event, the Open Yard of the National Museum of Korea will feature photo zones with the following themes: the Silla Golden Crown, Liberation, and Tigers. The "Silla Golden Crown Zone," commemorating the hosting of APEC 2025 in Gyeongju, will be decorated as a dazzling golden room with a model of the Silla Golden Crown. The "Liberation Zone," marking the 80th anniversary of liberation, will deliver messages of independence and freedom. In the "Tiger Zone," visitors will find a modern reinterpretation of the Joseon Dynasty folk painting "Hojakdo," which inspired the character "Duffy" from the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters." All visitors are welcome to use the photo zones, borrow traditional costumes for free, and participate in the dress-up play.

A total of 83 individuals or teams participated in the "National Museum of Korea Dress-Up Contest," which was held through an online pre-registration. Out of these, 10 outstanding participants (individuals or teams) will be selected and awarded on September 27. On the same day, 20 "Best Dressed" visitors who come to the museum in costume will be chosen and presented with popular items from the National Museum of Korea’s cultural merchandise (Myuz): the "Magpie Tiger Badge" and the "Black Hat Strap Ballpoint Pen." In addition, a male dance influencer dressed as the main characters "Lion Boys" from "K-Pop Demon Hunters" will make a surprise appearance and perform. There will also be a photo event called "Find the Lion."

The National Museum of Korea, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization, will also offer a variety of programs for international visitors. In the Open Yard, the Korea Tourism Organization will present hands-on programs under the theme "MY K-MEMORY: Capturing Memories of Korea," including digital tattoos featuring landmarks from Gyeongju and other major cities. Furthermore, on September 27 and 28, "Welcome Daehak-ro" performances, featuring traditional, non-verbal performances, musicals, and taekwondo, will be held at the main entrance of the museum.

The "2025 National Museum of Korea Dress-Up Play" is especially meaningful as it provides a festival that bridges tradition and modernity, allowing everyone to enjoy the growing interest in Korean traditional culture both domestically and internationally. Director Yoo Hongjun expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply appreciate the tremendous support from visitors both at home and abroad," and added, "I hope this event will widely showcase the charm of Korean traditional culture and become a festival that everyone can enjoy together."
