Korea Airports Corporation announced on September 9 that it held an inspection meeting to ensure the successful hosting of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
With the APEC Summit about 50 days away, the corporation convened this meeting to review the preparations at Gimpo, Gimhae, Daegu, Pohang-Gyeongju, and Ulsan airports, which have been designated as event airports.
Executives and the heads of all 14 airports nationwide attended the meeting, focusing on strengthening aviation security and safety measures for the arrival of world leaders and other VIPs, securing aircraft parking stands, and supporting immigration procedures.
First, in response to the government's elevated aviation security threat level, the corporation will strengthen aviation security procedures and conduct simulation drills to prepare for potential terrorist threats. To ensure the safe operation of aircraft, it has also implemented bird strike prevention measures, including upgrading bird detection equipment such as thermal imaging cameras and high-performance telescopes, and deploying additional bird control specialists.
In preparation for the arrival of heads of state and CEOs from various countries, the corporation has secured aircraft parking stands at Gimpo, Gimhae, Daegu, and Pohang-Gyeongju airports according to the government plan. At Pohang-Gyeongju Airport, a temporary immigration facility will be installed to facilitate swift entry and exit for dedicated flights.
Gimhae, Daegu, and Pohang-Gyeongju airports will complete the remodeling of VIP lounges by the end of this month, and Gimhae Airport will establish a second departure hall to enhance convenience for APEC Summit participants during departure.
To foster national attention and a welcoming atmosphere, since last month, the corporation has been broadcasting the official APEC promotional video on large screens and digital signage at all 14 airports nationwide. Starting next month, welcome banners and flags will be installed along airport roads.
Lee Jeonggi, Acting President of Korea Airports Corporation, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure the successful hosting of the APEC Summit through thorough preparations and safe, convenient airport operations."
