On September 9, the county announced that it had received the honorary certificate, which is awarded by the president of Kukkiwon.
The award ceremony was conducted by Choi Jaechun, Chairman of the Kim Unyong Sports Committee, on behalf of the president of Kukkiwon. Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, National Assemblyman Chung Dongman, and Park Hongbok, Chairman of the Gijang County Council, each received an honorary 4th Dan certificate.
The Kukkiwon honorary certificate is an official certificate awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Taekwondo and who have considerable social influence, such as heads of state, senior government officials, prominent figures in sports both domestically and internationally, and local government leaders. Through this award, Gijang County's efforts to promote regional sports development have been recognized externally.
In particular, Gijang County actively supported the successful hosting of the 2025 Kim Unyong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships in July, working to promote Taekwondo and expand the local sports culture. As a result, the reputation of Gijang County as a "sports city" has been further enhanced.
Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "It is an honor to receive the honorary Taekwondo certificate on behalf of Gijang County," and added, "I will do my utmost to promote the development of sports and the revitalization of community sports."
