A man in his 30s was apprehended by police after posting a threat online, stating he would carry out a knife attack in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

The Seoul Seongdong Police Station announced on September 9 at around 12:20 p.m. that they had identified and urgently arrested Mr. A on charges of public intimidation for writing the post.


Mr. A is accused of posting a message titled "I will take down a person in Eunpyeong-gu" on the online community DC Inside at around 5:20 a.m. that day.


The post reportedly contained a message warning of a knife attack, along with a photo showing a Japanese sword and a student ID. The post has since been deleted.


The police received a report at 7:20 a.m. and apprehended Mr. A within five hours. Mr. A stated that he had not actually purchased a Japanese sword and that he had digitally combined his student ID with a photo of a Japanese sword.


A police official stated, "We plan to investigate the specific motive for the crime, and no decision has been made regarding his custody. We will respond firmly, including thoroughly investigating those who post threats online."
