Experiencing Local History, Practicing Environmental Protection
The Kyungnam University Student Council recently concluded the 4th Local Love, National Love Glocal National Land March, which involved walking through the Gyeongju and Pohang areas, with great success.
Now in its fourth year, the Local Love, National Love Glocal National Land March was designed to allow students to experience the nation's history and culture firsthand by walking across the country, while also fostering a deeper understanding of local communities and inspiring patriotism.
The event, held from August 25 to August 28, brought together about 40 participants, including current students and faculty members, who walked a total of 28.7 kilometers along the Haeparang Trail courses 11, 12, and 13, connecting Gyeongju and Pohang. On the first day, participants started from Bonggil Daewangam Beach on Haeparang Trail course 11, passing through Igyeondae and Jeonchon Port before reaching Gampo Port, where they enjoyed the historic sites and beautiful scenery from the Unified Silla period.
On the second day, they walked Haeparang Trail course 12, which connects Gampo-eup in Gyeongju and Janggi-myeon in Nam-gu, Pohang. At Oryu Goara Beach, surrounded by dense pine forests, they also took part in a plogging activity to promote environmental protection, adding further meaning to the event. On the third day, participants walked Haeparang Trail course 13, from Yangpo Port to Guryongpo Port in Nam-gu, Pohang, cultivating a spirit of challenge for the future and broadening their horizons.
Youth Sketch, Campus Bridge, and the Institute for Future Education and Culture supported the march by providing shared items such as vests and offering financial assistance, encouraging the participants in their endeavor.
Lee Youngseop, president of the Student Council, said, "Walking the Haeparang Trail connecting Gyeongju and Pohang allowed us to directly experience the region's beautiful nature and historical significance, and participating in environmental protection activities gave us a sense of social responsibility. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the students who participated with passion until the end, as well as to Kyungnam University and the local organizations that provided generous support."
