The 2025 Yangyang Riverside National Marathon, where participants run against the beautiful backdrop of Yangyang Namdaecheon and the majestic Seoraksan Mountain, will be held in grand fashion on September 13 along the Yangyang Namdaecheon, with around 6,000 participants.

Now in its fourth year, this event is co-hosted by Yangyang County, the Korea Association of Athletics Federations, and G1 Broadcasting, and is organized by the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Athletics Federation and G1 Broadcasting. The marathon aims to widely promote the charm of Yangyang Namdaecheon-a healing space that harmoniously blends pristine nature and local culture.

This year’s event will kick off at 9:50 a.m. at the Yangyang Welcome Center with the elite (middle and high school division) 10 km and 5 km races. Starting at 10:00 a.m., five categories will be held, including the masters half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km courses.

The elite division will compete on the existing certified courses (5 km and 10 km), while the general division will run on the Namdaecheon circular course. In particular, thanks to upgrades made through the Namdaecheon Renaissance Project, participants will be able to enjoy even more beautiful natural scenery along the course.

All participants will receive a finisher’s medal and commemorative items such as a functional T-shirt. In addition, a total of 40 million won in prize money and awards will be given to both the general and elite divisions.

Furthermore, a rest area will be set up at the Namdaecheon Pongdangpongdang Water Playground, where participants can cool off and relieve fatigue. On-site, a survey related to the marathon will be conducted via QR code, and small prizes will be given to those who participate.

To ensure smooth operations and safety on the day of the event, full or partial traffic control will be enforced along the marathon course from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. About 200 people from Yangyang County, Sokcho Police Station, the Model Drivers’ Association, and the Volunteer Crime Prevention Corps will be deployed on site.

A Yangyang County official stated, "We will do our best to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy the wonders of nature amid the picturesque scenery of Namdaecheon, making this a vibrant and highly satisfying event for all."
