On September 9, Paju City announced that it had held a commencement briefing for a feasibility study on September 5 regarding the creation of a local ecological garden around Gongneungcheon, one of the core tasks for achieving the 2025 municipal goal of building a cultural and ecological recreational hub in the metropolitan area.
The briefing was attended by 22 people, including Paju City Deputy Mayor Choi Byunggap and representatives from environmental organizations, who discussed the necessity, feasibility, and direction for promoting the Gongneungcheon Local Ecological Garden.
Through this study, the city plans to select the optimal site in the lower reaches of Gongneungcheon by the end of this year and establish a basic plan for the creation of the ecological garden.
Paju City Deputy Mayor Choi Byunggap stated, "The lower reaches of Gongneungcheon are a brackish water area where it meets the Han River, forming a wetland ecosystem inhabited by various species and serving as a major migratory route for birds, making it a region of great ecological value. By creating the Gongneungcheon Local Ecological Garden, we aim to preserve these valuable ecological resources and provide citizens with a natural space for relaxation. At the same time, we will link it with nearby tourism resources to revitalize the local economy and lay the foundation for Paju to become the center of ecological recreation in the metropolitan area."
