Credit Union Donates 50 Million Won for Gangneung Drought Recovery

Voluntary Fundraising by 33 Credit Unions in Gangwon Region

The National Credit Union Federation of Korea announced on September 8 that it had donated 50 million won to support the swift recovery of Gangneung, which has suffered severe drought damage.

The donation ceremony, held at Gangneung City Hall, was attended by Donggi Kim, Chairman of the Gangwon Regional Council of Credit Unions (also Chairman of Jeongseon Credit Union and Director of the Credit Union Foundation), Honggyu Kim, Mayor of Gangneung, Hyeongyeol Jang, Chairman of the Yeongdong Council of Credit Unions in Gangwon (also Chairman of Yangyang Credit Union), Namcheol Kim, Chairman of Gangneung Credit Union, Sanghyuk Lee, Chairman of Kwandong Credit Union, Sangmyung Hwang, Chairman of Gangneung Dongin Hospital Credit Union, Minkyungdae, Head of the Gangwon Regional Headquarters of the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, and officials from Gangneung City Hall.

This donation was delivered to Gangneung City Hall through the Gangwon Community Chest of Korea. It was made up of 21.7 million won voluntarily raised by 33 credit unions in the Gangwon region, along with emergency support funds from the Credit Union Social Contribution Foundation. The donated funds will be used to help Gangneung residents restore their daily lives after experiencing hardships caused by the drought.

Yoonsik Kim, Chairman of the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, stated, "We extend our condolences to the residents of Gangneung who are experiencing difficulties in their livelihoods due to the drought. This donation is even more meaningful because it was voluntarily raised by credit unions in the Gangwon region. The National Credit Union Federation of Korea will continue to fulfill its responsibilities in supporting the recovery of communities affected by disasters and calamities."
