US 'Border Czar' Homan: "More Large-Scale Arrests Like Crackdowns on Korean Companies to Expand"

Tom Homan, the 'Border Czar' of the Donald Trump administration, warned on September 7 (local time) that there will be more large-scale crackdowns and arrests like the recent raids at construction sites of Korean companies in Georgia.

In an interview with CNN that day, Homan was asked whether there would be an expansion of large-scale immigration crackdowns similar to the one carried out at the Hyundai Motor plant in Georgia. He replied, "In short, yes."

Homan emphasized that illegal entry without proper visas and the employment of undocumented foreign nationals constitute crimes, stating, "We will conduct many more on-site crackdowns." He also pointed out that companies hiring undocumented foreign workers at low wages undermine fair competition by cutting costs unfairly. These remarks suggest that the recent crackdown on Korean companies targets not only undocumented foreign nationals but also aims to hold accountable the companies that employ them at low wages.

Regarding this, Homan said he personally witnessed Americans losing jobs and experiencing wage declines due to illegal immigration. He explained that he had to call numerous companies to find one that hired legal workers for roof repairs, and he heard that a company run by a wealthy individual had to lay off 20 American citizens because it could not compete.

Homan added that, as a result of the Trump administration's crackdowns, the United States achieved the safest borders in its history.

Previously, on September 4, U.S. immigration authorities conducted a crackdown on undocumented stay and employment at the Hyundai Motor and LG Energy Solution battery plant construction sites in Georgia, arresting 475 people, including about 300 Koreans. According to Korean officials, they are expected to board a chartered flight to Korea as early as September 10.
