On September 6, Lotte Engineering & Construction issued an official apology under the name of CEO Park Hyuncheol regarding an accident in which a worker was fatally struck by an excavator at an apartment construction site in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, where the company is serving as the contractor. The statement read, "We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased, who lost their precious life, and to the bereaved family in their time of grief."
At around 8:30 a.m. that day, a man in his 50s, referred to as Mr. A, was fatally struck by the bucket of an excavator at an apartment construction site in Buryam-dong, Gimhae, which is being built by Lotte Engineering & Construction.
Lotte Engineering & Construction stated, "We have suspended all work at the site and will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities in investigating the cause of the accident. Moving forward, we will implement special safety inspections and follow-up measures at all sites, and establish appropriate safety measures to prevent such accidents from recurring."
The company added, "Although we have prioritized safety and have been strengthening our safety management system, we take full responsibility for this accident. We will thoroughly investigate the cause and, in cooperation with external professional organizations, re-examine our safety systems to identify and improve any shortcomings, and reinforce our safety measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents."
