Prosecution Seeks 3-Year Prison Term for Former Lawmaker Ki Dongmin Over Illegal Political Funds

Former Democratic Party lawmaker Ki Dongmin, who was indicted on charges of receiving illegal political funds from Kim Bonghyun, the former chairman of Star Mobility and a key figure in the Lime Fund scandal, was sentenced to imprisonment, while Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sujin was sentenced to a fine.

On September 5, during the final trial held at the Seoul Southern District Court under the presiding judge Jeong Seonghwa of Criminal Division 11, the prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence and a forfeiture of 102 million won for former lawmaker Ki, who was tried on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery for influence peddling).


For lawmaker Lee, who was indicted on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, the prosecution requested a fine of 5 million won and a forfeiture of 5 million won.


Former lawmaker Ki was brought to trial in February 2023 on charges that, during the 20th general election period from February to April 2016, he received 100 million won in political funds and a suit worth 2 million won from former chairman Kim, in exchange for election funds and for facilitating permits related to the Yangjae-dong freight terminal site.


During the same period, lawmaker Lee was indicted on suspicion of receiving 5 million won in political funds from former chairman Kim.


The sentencing for both individuals is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on the 26th.
