President Lee Jaemyung will hold a luncheon meeting with Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, at the presidential office in Yongsan on September 8.
On September 5, Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Kim Byungwook stated during a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office, "This meeting will proceed freely without a set agenda."
This will be President Lee's first meeting with the leadership of both parties in about two and a half months since June 22. On that occasion, President Lee held a 105-minute luncheon meeting with Kim Byungki, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party, Kim Yongtae, acting chairman of the emergency committee of the People Power Party, and Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party.
In addition to the party leaders, the spokesperson and chief of staff from both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party will attend. From the presidential office, Chief of Staff Kang Hoonshik and Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Woo Sangho will be present.
Following the luncheon, a separate one-on-one meeting between President Lee and Leader Jang is also scheduled. Previously, Leader Jang had requested a one-on-one meeting with the president in response to President Lee's proposal for a meeting with the party leadership. Secretary Kim stated, "This meeting is intended as an opportunity for candid exchanges of views on key state affairs," adding, "We hope it will serve as a catalyst to strengthen cooperation and communication."
