Now, university students are taking the lead in driving change within their local communities.
Shilla University (President Heo Namsik) announced on September 5 that its RISE Project Group has launched the first cohort of the "RISE Supporters" to expand student-led community participation.
On September 1, an appointment and launch ceremony was held in the main conference room on the second floor of the Shilla University main building, attended by Inju Hwang, director of the RISE Project Group, project group officials, selected RISE Supporters, and honorary reporters.
The students chosen as Shilla University RISE Supporters will carry out a variety of projects aimed at spreading the university's innovation achievements and expanding student-led community engagement. Their activities will include promoting through social media channels such as Instagram and blogs, creating content for the RISE Project Group website, participating in local events and on-campus programs, and producing card news and videos showcasing university innovation achievements.
Sunwoo Kim, a senior in the Department of Education who was appointed to the honorary reporters group, pledged, "I will widely promote the university's innovation achievements from a student's perspective and actively communicate with the local community."
Mintoy Nguyen, a second-year student in the Department of Airline Service from Vietnam who was selected as a Supporter, said, "As an international student and global citizen, I want to become a bridge connecting Korea, Vietnam, and the world. Based on a multicultural perspective, I will actively promote the internationalization of Shilla University and the local community."
He currently serves as vice president of the Vietnamese Students Association in Korea (VSAK) and as president of the Shilla University Vietnamese Students Association. Mintoy Nguyen's participation as a RISE Supporter is expected to contribute to the global spread of project achievements and to strengthen the local-international linkage model.
Inju Hwang, director of the Shilla University RISE Project Group, encouraged the students, saying, "RISE Supporters are the key drivers in spreading Shilla University's innovation achievements to the local community and the world. I hope you will engage in creative activities for the mutual growth of the university and the region."
