Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province announced on September 4 that it held a citizens' briefing session on September 2, organized by the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Pan-Citizen Preparation Committee (Chairman Ahn Gyucheol), to share the preparation status and various measures for the Islands Expo.
More than 150 citizens and members of the Pan-Citizen Preparation Committee attended the briefing, along with key officials from the Islands Expo Support Team and the Organizing Committee, who provided detailed updates on preparations in each field.
As the first agenda, Kang Haengsook, Head of Operations at the Organizing Committee, presented the plans for the construction of the Islands Expo venue, exhibition operations, and major event schedules. Next, Jung Suhwan, Head of the Islands Expo Support Team, explained measures related to areas closely connected to citizens' daily lives, such as land and sea transportation and accommodations, and facilitated a discussion to gather opinions.
During the Q&A session, participants discussed a variety of pressing issues, including transportation convenience, island tourism linkage programs, the progress rate of the expo venue construction, and the reorganization of the city’s traffic system.
Many citizens expressed that their concerns about delays in the construction of the expo venue and transportation issues had been largely addressed, and shared heightened expectations for the Islands Expo.
The Pan-Citizen Preparation Committee, launched in March 2023, has been carrying out various activities to promote the Islands Expo and expand citizen participation. Recently, it has also been strengthening the scope of activities for each division and establishing a more concrete cooperation system with Yeosu City.
