"Trying to Curry Favor with Yoon to Become Party Leader" vs "Flattered Lee to Escape Prison"... Cho Kuk and Na Kyungwon in War of Words

Cho Kuk Criticizes Na Kyungwon's Remarks as a First-Term Lawmaker
Na Kyungwon, College Classmate, Responds Immediately

Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, responded to Cho Kuk, head of the Innovation Policy Research Institute of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, who claimed that she had tried to curry favor with former President Yoon Sukyeol and his wife because she wanted to become the party leader. Na countered, "A pig sees only pigs." Earlier, on September 3, at an event in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, Cho referenced Na's remarks as a first-term lawmaker, saying, "I suspect she wanted to become the People Power Party leader," and criticized, "She probably wasn't happy bowing and flattering Yoon Sukyeol and Kim Keonhee." He continued, "Na graduated from Seoul National University Law School, became a judge, and then a lawmaker. She has a good resume, but didn't she follow Yoon Sukyeol around and oppose impeachment? Can you really call that a successful life?"

In response to Cho's criticism, Na wrote on social media that day, "As Cho Kuk said, a pig sees only pigs. His remarks about flattery are nothing more than a mirror reflecting his own past." She continued, "Did he bow and flatter Moon Jaein to rise to the positions of Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs and Minister of Justice? And now, did he bow and flatter Lee Jaemyung to escape prison? Is he talking from personal experience?"

Na further stated, "A criminal who was released from prison through a special pardon before completing his sentence shows no reflection, apology, or self-restraint, but instead makes baseless accusations of hypocrisy against others." She added, "Just as he brought down the Moon Jaein administration, Cho Kuk will continue his self-destructive behavior that exposes the hypocrisy and false agitation of the left." She concluded, "Just as Cho's photo with the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) symbolizes his hypocrisy, no matter how much you try to hide or disguise the truth, it will always come out. No lie or mask can last long before the people."

Meanwhile, Cho Kuk and Na Kyungwon were classmates in the class of 1982 at Seoul National University Law School. In her 2020 memoir, Na wrote about Cho's student days, saying, "He was not one of the activists at the time." She added, "His nickname in college was 'Big-Mouthed Frog,' and his activism couldn't compare to that of our classmate Won Heeryong, now governor of Jeju Province." She continued, "Including myself, those of us who spent years at university with him only vaguely thought of him as a 'nice classmate.' We were left speechless by the disgraceful side he revealed later on. It's astonishing that the whole country was divided into two camps because of one person, former Minister Cho Kuk."
