The General Affairs Committee (Chairperson Jo Myungsun) visited the Hwasun County Dementia Relief Center and the World Heritage Hwasun Dolmen Site Visitor Center to check the progress of key local issues.

At the first stop, the Hwasun County Dementia Relief Center, the committee received a report on the current projects and operational status and inspected the facility in person. The members noted that, as the population continues to decline and the society ages, both the elderly population and the number of dementia patients are increasing. They requested that the center be promoted more actively so that all local residents can easily access and use it, and that programs for dementia patients and their families be expanded to encourage greater participation. They also urged coordination with relevant departments to ensure the smooth implementation of the so-called Integrated Care Support Act, which will take effect on March 27 next year.

Next, at the World Heritage Hwasun Dolmen Site Visitor Center, the committee was briefed on the progress of the project and future operational plans. The members requested the establishment of a promotional room in the visitor center and the development of detailed operational plans, including programs for visitors. They also called for continued efforts to vitalize the dolmen site.

The Industry and Construction Committee (Chairperson Jo Sehyun) visited the Hwasun Community Center and the flood-affected area in Iseo-myeon, which was declared a special disaster zone due to heavy rainfall. After carefully inspecting each floor of the Hwasun Community Center, the members suggested reviewing the installation of an escalator on the stairs leading to the central courtyard to improve accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities. They also asked for the development and operation of various programs to enhance resident welfare and revitalize the local community, positioning the center as a hub for community activities.

The committee also visited the flood-affected site in Iseo-myeon, which was declared a special disaster zone after heavy rainfall from July 16 to 20. At the site, the heads of relevant departments (Director of Resident Safety, Director of Construction and Transportation) explained the declaration of the special disaster zone and the restoration plans for Jangbokcheon. The committee members expressed their condolences to the residents affected by the flood.

After closely inspecting the flood-damaged area, the committee members emphasized the importance of promptly disbursing disaster relief funds for private facilities and swiftly restoring public facilities such as Jangbokcheon, given the area's designation as a special disaster zone.

Meanwhile, the 276th temporary session of the Hwasun County Council, which opened on September 1, is currently reviewing the second supplementary budget bill for 2025, the 2025 administrative audit plan, various ordinance bills, and general agenda items. Final decisions are scheduled to be made at the plenary session on September 12.
