Seongdong District Sends Water Trucks to Gangneung, Supplies 180 Tons of Daily-Use Water Seongdong District will urgently provide three water trucks daily for five days to Gangneung City, which is experiencing severe drought. A Seongdong District water truck arrives in Gangneung City to support water supply efforts. Provided by Seongdong District.

Recently, Gangneung City has faced an intensifying water shortage as the water level at Obong Reservoir, which supplies 87% of the city’s daily-use water, has dropped to 15% due to record-breaking drought. In response, Gangneung City has implemented water-saving measures, including suspending the operation of swimming pools and public bathhouses.

On August 30, the government declared a ‘national disaster emergency’ in the Gangneung area for the first time due to the drought and launched an all-out response. On the same day, President Lee Jaemyung chaired a meeting in Gangneung, urging cooperation from local governments nationwide and the mobilization of military and fire department water trucks.

Seongdong District’s water supply support is a prompt response to the central government’s request, making it the first among Seoul’s districts to take such action. Starting September 3, Seongdong District will cooperate with Samcheok City to transport water from Samcheok and supply it to Gangneung two to three times a day.

Mayor Jung Wono of Seongdong District stated, “We decided to provide water truck support in the hope that Seongdong District could share in Gangneung City’s difficulties and offer some help in overcoming the drought. All Seongdong residents sincerely hope that rain will come soon, the drought will be resolved, and daily life in Gangneung will return to normal.”
