Saengil-myeon: Unity Events and Performances for Residents' Day
Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced on September 2 that it will host a series of festivals centered around its island regions, featuring local specialties and nature as their main themes.
On September 6, Geumil-eup and Yaksan-myeon will each hold their own festivals: the Kelp Festival and the Azalea & Black Goat Festival, respectively. The Kelp Festival in Geumil-eup will highlight the area's status as the main production region, accounting for over 70% of the nation's kelp output, and will feature hands-on experiences and exhibitions to showcase the excellence of kelp. There will also be a "Chimaek" (chicken and beer) party for residents and tourists to enjoy together at the event venue.

On the same day, Yaksan-myeon will host the Azalea & Black Goat Festival, which includes black goat ranch experiences and family-oriented programs. After the festival, visitors can participate in a forest healing experience at the nearby "Yaksan Coastal Healing Forest," set against the backdrop of pristine seas and subtropical forests.
On September 13, Saengil-myeon, which has been selected as a "Must-Visit Island," will hold a Residents' Day commemorative event. The event will feature a residents' sports competition, singing contest, and performances to promote unity. In addition, a large cake sculpture symbolizing Saengildo, as well as various tourist attractions such as Baegunsan Mountain, Geumgok Beach, and Yongchul Pebble Beach, will welcome visitors.
An official from the county stated, "This year's township festivals offer a variety of programs, including healing in nature, local specialty cooking contests, and performances. We hope you will visit Wando on the weekends and have an enjoyable time." For festival-related inquiries, please contact the Tourism Product Development Team at the Wando County Office's Tourism Division.
Meanwhile, in celebration of "2025 Visit Wando Year," the county is offering a 30% discount on admission to the Wando Marine Healing Center for tourists who spend over 50,000 won at local restaurants, traditional markets, or accommodations, along with up to two companions.
