This visit was arranged to strengthen cooperation between the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) and LG AI Research Institute. It is seen as a demonstration of the UK’s strong commitment to collaborating with South Korea, which has advanced AI development capabilities, in the global financial infrastructure sector. LSEG is a leading British financial company that owns global financial market infrastructure and data.

Accompanying Minister Alexander were Colin Crooks, British Ambassador to Korea; Martin Kent, UK Department for Business and Trade Asia-Pacific Trade Commissioner; James Derry, Head of North East Asia, Trade Analysis, UK Department for Business and Trade; and Joshua Chambers, Head of Asia-Pacific Communications, UK Department for Business and Trade. From LG AI Research Institute, Lee Hongrak, Co-Research Director and CSAI; Lim Woohyung, Co-Research Director; and Lee Hwayoung, Head of AI Business Development, welcomed the delegation.

LG AI Research Institute is developing financial AI prediction services that support business decision-making by utilizing LSEG’s vast financial data, based on its advanced AI technology. Leveraging its proprietary large language model (LLM) ‘EXAONE,’ the institute provides investment insights through financial prediction AI models and its own financial prediction AI framework, while LSEG plans to build an integrated platform to distribute these services to global clients.

The technology partnership between the two organizations was first announced at the ‘LG AI Talk Concert 2025’ held in July, where Arman Sahovic, Head of Data Platform Solutions for Asia-Pacific at LSEG, gave a presentation. LSEG commented on the collaboration, stating, “Trust is at the core of financial markets, and our partnership with LG AI Research Institute is founded on this principle. By combining LG’s AI expertise with LSEG’s reliable data and distribution network, we will help customers make business decisions based on more trustworthy insights.”

On this day, LG introduced its collaborative project with LSEG and discussed the UK’s R&D ecosystem and the overall AI industry and strategies. The visit by Minister Alexander is also expected to serve as an opportunity to open a new chapter of cooperation between the UK and South Korea, going beyond the partnership between LG and LSEG.

To commemorate this partnership, LG AI Research Institute and LSEG plan to hold an official ceremony at the London Stock Exchange in the UK later this month and officially launch the financial AI prediction service.

Ambassador Crooks stated, “This collaboration is a representative achievement of the digital partnership being built together by the UK and Korea. By combining the world-class financial services industries, technology ecosystems, and cutting-edge AI research capabilities of both countries, we will jointly realize sustainable economic growth, resilience, and prosperity.”

Ambassador Kent also commented, “The UK has the third largest AI market in the world, with the value of its technological influence reaching 1.2 trillion US dollars, making it a scientific and technological powerhouse. Through a 2 billion pound AI Opportunity Delivery Plan, we continue to invest in the future of AI. The partnership between LG AI Research Institute and LSEG is an example of the shared momentum between the UK and Korea to shape the future of AI, and I look forward to both countries creating an innovative future through close cooperation.”

Lim Woohyung, Co-Research Director, emphasized, “By integrating LG’s advanced future prediction AI and agent AI technologies into the financial market, we are creating new customer value within the global financial ecosystem, and this will serve as a catalyst for expanding the partnership between Korea and the UK into various industrial environments.”
