Facility Usage Fees Discounted at Public Parking Lots and Campgrounds
Joint Proposal by Council Members An Pyunghwan and Kim Nayoon
The Gwangju City Council has significantly revised related ordinances to expand practical benefits for families who have fulfilled distinguished military service.
According to the city council on September 1, five ordinance amendment bills jointly sponsored by council members An Pyunghwan and Kim Nayoon have passed the standing committee and are set for final approval at the plenary session on September 5.
The amendments are intended to provide tangible benefits in daily life to families who have faithfully fulfilled their military service obligations across three generations.
With these ordinance revisions, starting in January next year, families will be eligible for benefits at facilities operated by Gwangju City, including a 50% discount on usage fees at the Seungchonbo Campground, free admission to Gwangju City Art Museum exhibitions, a 70% discount on usage fees at the Citizens' Forest Campground, a 50% discount on public parking lot fees, and a 50% discount on public sports facility usage fees.
Notably, the level of discounts matches those offered to national merit recipients, allowing distinguished military service families to receive the same level of recognition and respect as national merit awardees.
An Pyunghwan stated, "With this revision, it is now possible to provide substantial recognition to families who have faithfully fulfilled their military service obligations," adding, "We will continue to do our best to enhance the pride of distinguished military service families and foster a culture of respect for them in the local community."
Kim Nayoon said, "Honoring distinguished military service families goes beyond simple financial support; it symbolizes the nation’s and community’s appreciation and recognition of their sacrifice," and added, "We will continue working to expand various support policies that improve daily life for these families."
