The Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province urgently arrested Mr. A at his residence in Hwaseong at approximately 5:55 p.m. on suspicion of making threats.
He did not resist arrest and is currently being questioned at the Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station.
Mr. A is accused of posting messages in the morning around 10 a.m. on several online communities, including the "Police Officer Trainee Gallery" on DC Inside, stating his intent to "throw Mayor Oh off the Seobu Urban Expressway and kill him," and "Who told you to build the Seobu Urban Expressway like crap," among other similar remarks.
Currently, the Seobu Urban Expressway is undergoing a conversion to a general road, which has resulted in ongoing traffic inconveniences.
After receiving a report regarding the threats against Mayor Oh, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency requested cooperation, and the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul visited the Seoul Metropolitan Council, where Mayor Oh was present, to confirm his safety.
A police official stated, "After receiving a cooperation request from the Daegu agency, we quickly tracked down and urgently arrested the poster. We plan to investigate the specific motive and circumstances of the crime."
