President Lee Hosts Ruling Party Lawmakers for Luncheon, Consolidates Reform Resolve Ahead of Regular National Assembly Session

Jeong Cheongrae: "We Will Fulfill Reform Tasks in the Regular National Assembly Session"
Lee Jaemyung: "A Turning Point in History, the Role of the National Assembly Is Crucial"

On August 29, President Lee Jaemyung invited Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party, along with other ruling party lawmakers, to a luncheon at the Blue House State Guesthouse. This move is interpreted as an effort by President Lee and the ruling party to consolidate their determination to pursue reforms for the livelihood of the people ahead of the regular National Assembly session in September.

During the luncheon, which was held at noon for one hour at the invitation of President Lee, Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae stated, "The goal of this regular National Assembly session is to tighten the reins on livelihood reforms and to fulfill the era-defining reform tasks mandated by the people," adding, "We will pass livelihood bills that will bring about real changes in daily life and wipe away the tears of the people."

Previously, the Democratic Party had issued a resolution during a two-day, one-night parliamentary workshop that began the previous day, focusing on the 'complete end to the December 3 Insurrection' and the 'completion of major social reforms, including prosecution reform.'

Leader Jeong emphasized, "Now, more than ever, the spirit of a one-team approach is desperately needed. The party and government must work together as one unified community to the very end to achieve the results the people desire and to support the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration."

President Lee stated, "With a tremendous sense of responsibility, knowing that the lives of tens of millions of people depend on every word I say, I am devoting my utmost effort to running the government," and urged, "I hope each and every one of you recognizes that we are at a turning point in history and approaches your responsibilities with the gravity they deserve."

He continued, "It is extremely important to listen to the voices of the people, even their smallest complaints, and to communicate with them, even if we cannot respond to every single voice. Please meet with as many citizens as possible in your constituencies. When the evaluations of lawmakers, local government heads, and local council members are positive, the evaluation of the administration will also improve."

He further added, "The role of the National Assembly is truly important. I trust that the National Assembly will effectively pursue the reform agenda. For me, the evaluation at the end of my term is more important than any evaluation now. Rather than just talking, I want to show results. I aim to run an administration where actions and outcomes come before words. I hope the National Assembly will do the same."

Regarding the six-day, three-night visits to Japan and the United States, Leader Jeong congratulated President Lee, saying, "Through this summit, you have clearly demonstrated what true diplomacy is, and the results of President Lee's pragmatic, national interest-centered diplomacy are beginning to bear fruit."

On President Lee's "peacemaker-face maker" role during the summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, he remarked, "This has become a symbolic expression that encapsulates the achievements of the summit, and it evokes the image of President Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and President Lee standing together at the APEC stage in the near future. This will indeed serve as a starting point for turning back the clock toward peace and creating a turning point for a dramatic reversal."

President Lee responded by saying, "I sincerely thank the citizens and lawmakers for their support in helping us prepare for the summit."
